Firsts for Silas

Yesterday was Silas' first day of daycare. He slept all the way home and napped from the time we walked in the door until we left this morning. They sent a paper about his day, he got all good marks meaning he doesn't have any aggression and is allowed to be in the group activities. It also said he had medium energy (I would like to know what they think high energy is), he had no interest in toys, and his favorite friend was a golden puppy named Tebow. Last night was also our first obedience class (only the humans went the puppies had to stay home). It looks like for now there will be 6 other dogs in our class. Did I mention we are the youngest (human and dog) in the class and we are also the only not pure bred dog in the group (everyone else has show dogs with the exception of one other couple but they made sure everyone knew that their dog was pure bred too). This is supposed to be a level 1 beginner class but all the other dogs are 2-4 years old and have all been through obedience class and most have competed in competitions. At this point in class I was feeling very singled out and it only got worse from there. The instructor then started talking about what treats to bring to class, hot dogs. She wants everyone to only use hot dogs. We all know how picky I am about food, and even Kevin who isn't as picky as I am is against hot dogs. We only feed Silas organic food (and I have never seen an organic hot dog) and when I told this to the instructor she suggested I cook him liver instead. Yeah so I will probably just use our dog treats. Then the worst part, she showed us the collars we are to use. Choker chains. Every dog in the class has to wear a choker. I am so against the choker type collars, I don't even like it when his normal collar pulls on his neck (we use a harness). I was so relieved when the other couple spoke up first and said they use a harness too. Both our dogs are allowed to start off in their harness but will have to slowly transition to a choker collar to graduate. I left feeling like this was the worst idea I have ever had, so hopefully it gets better.
