So what do you do with nearly 16 pounds of blueberries? Well, I have no idea what you would do with them but I made jam of course. I like canning. Although it is very time consuming it is actually pretty easy. Whenever people find out I can they almost always ask if it is worth it. To me and I believe Kevin would agree, although if he had to do all the work he might not agree, that it is worth it. The up front cost to start out is a bit expensive but necessary and will pay out n the end because you can reuse almost everything except the food. You have to buy a canner and you have to buy the tools needed and you have to buy the jars. (also for those of you I have given things to try if you still have my jars I would really love it if once the food has been eaten I could have my jar back) I also know exactly what is in the food I canned and exactly where it came form. I am happy to say that this year a lot of the things I can will come from my garden! I can not wait until until everything is ready to pick.
Any way back to the jam. I made two different recipes and I like one more than the other. Unfortunately the one I like more is the one you have to cook on the stove top, the other you can make in the crock pot. All that is in it is blueberries, sugar, and some apple peel.
Silas update:
I spent an hour at the pet store last night looking into different food options for him and there are really no options. There is one other brand that would be his only option unless I bought him specialty food from our vet but the food at the vet is $65 for a 16 pound bag or a 20 pound bag for $92. The problem is he is a large breed dog so he needs to eat puppy food until at least 18 months and because puppies don't normally have allergies their aren't a lot of foods out there for puppies with allergies. The vet did call me this morning to check on his progress and said to hold off on switching foods for now since there are a few things she would like to try out first. So thats where we are at.
